God tells us that:
“You will seek me and find me
when you seek me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:13
But how can we believe this when, perhaps, it feels like God is not around or that He has been silent in different areas of our life? Areas such as a job, a friendship, a position or even a challenging circumstance in your life. Areas where you are left wondering, whether they will amount to anything, whether there will ever by peace, or if they are even worthwhile.
But I’d like to challenge you, today, to ask yourself whether this is true.
Whether, the Creator of the universe, the One who knitted you in your mother’s womb and gave you the breath of life has gone silent.
After all, this verse was a promise given by God to His people, during their Babylonian captivity. He was promising that even in the midst of affliction and uncertainty, He would not hide from them and that they were certainly not hidden to Him.
So then, could it be that we are the ones who have simply forgotten about the goodness and faithfulness of who God is? Have we forgotten that when He gives us a promise that He will be faithful to fulfill it and bring it to fruition?
Read with me Psalm 27:13
“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
that I would see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.”
Interestingly, David begins this Psalm with the same confidence and praise in which he ends it. Because no matter the timing of his uncertainty, his assurance for God’s faithfulness and goodness did not waver.
So, I don’t know about you, but I’d like to take a que from the man after God’s own heart. I would like to stand confident and steadfast in God’s promises, even in the midst of what I do not know or understand.
It could be, though, that there are some of you who are in a place where you cannot bear to take a step towards seeking God. In fear that you may not find Him, because of rejection or insecurities. Or in fear that He may reject you because of who you think you are or who you think you are not.
Or perhaps you may be in a place where you have entirely lost heart that you will ever see the goodness of the Lord. After all, there is so much noise around us that drowns out the Source of what is good and faithful.
But what if I told you that you can push through that “noise” and call out to God?
Better yet, what if I told you that you can call out to God, because He actually desires to hear from you, and that He desires to have an intimate relationship with you.
A relationship that is built on the assurance that the Creator of the universe wants to hear from you and wants to know you.
Because guess what? That is exactly who God has demonstrated to be, from the very beginning of time. From all the way back to the garden of Eden, we witnessed the God of the universe, draw closer to His fallen creation, by asking them a question:
“Where are you?”
Because we know that man was not “lost” to the omniscient God, instead, the sovereign, loving and all-knowing God, went to seek out man and woman, as an act of grace and not abandonment.
So, you see, even when life became uncertain and out of bounds, from God’s original plan, man and woman were not forgotten or disposed of. For God did not want to be separated from His creation, His desire has always been to know you and to be known by you.
So then, imagine with me…. what would happen if you trusted in that God?
The God who searched out His creation, despite their fallen and sinful nature. Despite their disobedience and shame.
What would you say to Him?
Would you tell Him your pain, your doubts or fears?
Would you share your plans, your desires and dreams?
…. Would you exchange the lies that have been drowning out the Source of Truth?
I would venture to say that you would.
That you would begin to distinguish His voice from those that don’t serve you well. That you would trust and surrender to the quietness of the uncertainty in your life, because you will stand confidant knowing that the One who holds your life in the palm of His hand is unwavering and unchanging, despite any of your fears and hesitations. And you would begin to believe that when you seek the Lord with all your heart that you will find Him.
Because He has also been seeking you.
